Weston-Super-Mare is a seaside resort in Somerset, located on the Bristol Channel. The Bristol Channel has a large tidal range the low tide mark in Weston Bay is about a mile from the seafront. So although the beach itself is sandy the low tide uncovers large areas of thick mud, which are very dangerous to walk in.
The Grand Pier has Fun rides and attractions, licensed bar, corporate facilities, a gift shop, toilets, a cash machine and disabled access. There is also an aquarium on the beach and a town centre within walking distance from the beach.
Further along the beach is Marine Lake, built in the 1920s to provide a safe and shallow beach where the tide was always in. There are no dogs allowed on this little beach. The far side of the lake is cut off from the sea by Marine Lake Causeway, which stretched from the end of Knightstone Island to the far side of the mainland.
The town centre is opposite the seafront and offers individual and specialist local shops, restaurants and cafes as well as national names and brands.
Western is a typical tourist seaside town and beach, we don’t generally do days at the beach in the typical fashion so it’s not our favourite seaside resort. However, with everything it has to offer we can see how this is a fantastic place for a family holiday.
